Part watchmaking course, part clock, the Persée Fantôme Limited Edition for Hodinkee invites collectors to assemble, customize, and illuminate a one-of-a-kind horological experience.

Maison Alcée is not a watch brand in the traditional sense. Founded by French engineer Alcée Montfort and her husband, engineer and designer Benoît, the brand focuses on teaching people about watchmakingin a tactile, immersive, and lasting way. Rather than starting with a finished product, Maison Alcée offers an experience via a kit,with 233 finely crafted components, 90% of which are made in the Jura, that you assemble yourself, slowly piecing together a mechanical clock that runs, ticks, and keeps time. It’s a clock and a gateway to watchmaking all in one box.

For the Hodinkee Limited Edition, we worked closely with Benoît and Alcée to create a version that celebrates that same spirit of education, while also incorporating several details that are entirely exclusive. The stainless steel base has been treated with a ruthenium coating, giving the clock a darker, moodier tone that echoes our signature Hodinkee Grey color and ties this special Persée Fantôme to our aesthetic.These grey tones are interrupted only by the perfectly polished finish of the striking bell, which chimes on the hour when activated. The custom syringe handset, exclusive to Hodinkee, has been re-engineered to be luminous, and — in a delightful twist — it arrives unpainted, allowing you to finish the job yourself. Finally, the outer dial has also been prepared with luminous treatment, and once again, you apply the lume by hand. It’s a reminder that in this project, your effort, your craftsmanship, and your patience become part – a glowing part – of the clock itself. All of these details add up to a piece that is both subtle and striking, depending onwhere it’s placed in the owner’s home.

Each of the 25 numbered units will be shipped in a beautifully crafted rosewood presentation box, complete with the full kit of components and a 150-page instruction book that includes links to the accompanying videos.Should you need additional guidance, Maison Alcée is available via a dedicated WhatsApp group for those who purchase one of the brand’s kits.
