Cartier may be synonymous with the Tank, but the French maison has never been content to rest on a single design. Introduced in 2015, the Clé de Cartier offered a thoroughly modern interpretation of the brand’s unmistakable aesthetic, pairing a sculptural case with an ingenious new take on the winding crown.

This Clé de Cartier, Reference W2CL0002, features a 40mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal and Cartier’s distinctive key-shaped winding crown — the detail from which the collection takes its name. Its silvered dial combines black Roman numerals with Cartier’s signature blued-steel sword hands, while a discreet date aperture sits at 6 o’clock. Inside, an automatic movement provides the power, with the watch secured to a matching stainless steel bracelet with a deployant clasp.

Elegant without being expected, unmistakably Cartier without being another Tank, the Clé de Cartier makes a compelling case for looking beyond the usual suspects.
