Introduced as part of the first-generation Planet Ocean collection, the 2209.50.00 took the familiar Seamaster formula and pushed it into more serious territory. The case grew to 42mm, the water resistance jumped to an enormous 600 meters, and the overall design became sharper, cleaner, and unmistakably more purposeful. This wasn’t just a desk diver—it looked ready for saturation duty, whether you ever planned to leave dry land or not.

The black dial remains one of Omega’s strongest modern designs: deeply legible, balanced, and free of unnecessary distraction. Broad arrow hands, oversized luminous markers, and the signature helium escape valve at 10 o’clock all reinforce the Planet Ocean’s professional dive credentials. But it’s the orange bezel that gives this reference its personality. Against the monochromatic steel case and black dial, the burst of color feels energetic without tipping into gimmick—a now-iconic detail that has aged exceptionally well.

Inside beats the Co-Axial Caliber 2500, one of the movements that marked Omega’s technical turning point in the modern era. Automatic, chronometer-certified, and equipped with a 48-hour power reserve, it brought George Daniels’ Co-Axial escapement technology into everyday production and helped establish Omega’s contemporary identity.
