Sometimes the simplest Patek Philippe watches reveal the most about what the manufacture does so well.

Dating to the 2000s, this Reference 5115R is a beautifully traditional expression of the Patek Philippe dress watch, executed in 18K rose gold and measuring an elegant 35mm in diameter. At just 8mm thick, it has the slim proportions one wants from a watch of this kind, but there is considerably more going on here than first meets the eye.

Most striking is the gorgeous Clous de Paris bezel, its intricate hobnail pattern creating a richly textured frame around the otherwise restrained dial. The white enamel dial is classically arranged with black Roman numerals, slender feuille-style hands, a chemin-de-fer minute track, and a beautifully proportioned subsidiary seconds register at 6:00. The combination of crisp black indications, white enamel, and warm rose gold feels quintessentially Patek Philippe.

Inside is the manually wound Calibre 215 PS, with “PS” denoting petite seconde, or small seconds. The movement carries the historic Geneva Seal and offers approximately 44 hours of power reserve. There is something particularly appropriate about a hand-wound movement in a watch this traditional—the simple ritual of winding it is entirely in keeping with its old-school character.

A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the watch comes fitted to a brown alligator leather strap with its original 18K rose gold Patek Philippe tang buckle.

The Ref. 5115R is a dress-watch Patek at its most distilled: modestly sized, beautifully finished, and wonderfully traditional. And that Clous de Paris bezel gives an otherwise restrained watch just the right amount of textured flourish.
