While we love a simple Calatrava, a sporty Aquanaut, or a complicated perpetual calendar as much as the next guy, the oddball, more overlooked and usually limited-production, shaped watches made by the maison in second half of the 20th century are often some of the most innovative and charming in the brand’s oeuvre.

Take this ladies’ Gondolo ref. 4962/200R-010 for example. This piece stands on its own as the intersection of Patek Philippe's command of watchmaking, and its mastery of finer crafts. The case is fashioned from rose gold, featuring a unique 'tear drop' flowing case profile. Sized 28.6 x 40.85mm, the bezel is set with 94 stunning brilliant-cut spessartites arranged in double color gradient. The 'Zebra' dial is equally decorated, fashioned from metallic sapphire with engraved and inked and topped off with a white varnish.

To top it all off, this Gondolo is fitted to a white calfskin strap with a unique finish. Ticking away within is a quartz movement.
