Take a poll amongst wristwatch collectors, and we'd bet the consensus would be that there might be nothing more important or iconic in a watch collection than an Omega Speedmaster.

Sure, chronographs such as the Rolex Daytona or the Heuer Carrera are classics - icons even, but neither can match the stature of the Speedy with regards to importance in history. In fact, arguably no watch can.

This particular Reference, 3572.50, in spirit and aesthetics has all the elements of a classic Apollo-era watch. The case proportions are unchanged from the original Professional models from the mid 1960s, and features the updated .1863 (a direct descendant of the .861 from the late '60s). The black matte dial uses Tritium luminescent material, abandoned in favor of Luminova in subsequent models, which offers a tremendous opportunity to develop a patina that's as mouth-watering as any model from 30 years earlier. Unlike the later and perhaps better known "Sapphire sandwich" (Reference 3573.50), this model features a sapphire exhibition back but a traditional Hesalite crystal on the front side, rather than a sapphire crystal, giving it even more warmth.
