Patek Philippe Sculpture Two-Tone - (Ref. 5091/1JA-001 ) Product Details

Overall Condition: Very good condition overall. Case and bracelet shows normal signs of wear consistent with age and use. Dial and handset are in great condition.

Welcome to the wild side of Patek Philippe!

Produced during the 1990s, the Sculpture belongs to a fascinating period when the manufacture was experimenting with unconventional cases, integrated bracelets, mixed metals, and a considerably more extroverted design language. Today, with neo-vintage Patek Philippe increasingly in the spotlight, the Sculpture suddenly looks remarkably prescient.

This example combines stainless steel and 18K yellow gold in a substantial 38mm case with a smooth gold bezel and an integrated two-tone bracelet. The case is the real curiosity. Pronounced “ears” project from either side, inevitably recalling the Nautilus—and, in retrospect, the Aquanaut—but interpreted here in a much more flamboyant fashion. The bracelet continues the theme with sculptural links that make the entire watch feel like a single piece of industrial jewelry.

Then there’s the black dial. Concentric geometric texturing radiates from its center, surrounded by applied gold Roman numerals and an almost architectural outer minute track. Tritium-filled feuille hands indicate the time, while a simple date aperture at 3:00 provides everyday practicality.

Even the crown is wonderfully strange, with what appears to be deep blue lapis lazuli set into its end.

Inside is Patek Philippe’s automatic Calibre 315, complete with quick-set date and gold winding rotor—a thoroughly serious movement inside one of the manufacture’s least conventional designs.

The Sculpture was never produced in significant numbers, with total production across the various executions believed to have amounted to roughly 2,500 watches. That scarcity, combined with its very specific 1990s aesthetic, makes it particularly interesting today.

This is primo neo-vintage Patek: rare, weird, luxurious, and completely removed from the restrained Calatrava idea of what a Patek Philippe should look like.

Hot, hot, hot! Rare, rare, rare!
