WHY WE LOVE IT

We know what you’re thinking. All signs point to this being a ‘Doxa’ watch, right?

Well…close. In the late 1960s, Doxa, Ernest Borel, and Cyma were owned by ASUAG, and operated under the Synchron Group. In 1978, Ernest Borel and Doxa came under the ownership of Aubrey Frères — a company that happily shared model nomenclature, parts, and more, leading to the creation of certain ‘hybrid’ models, for lack of a better term.

This SUB200 T Sharkhunter Diver from the 1980s is one such watch. Though it features a profile that’s somewhere between that of a Submariner and a Doxa SUB 200, the carry-over from the later brand is easy to discern. Housed in a 36mm stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal, a screw-down crown, and a dive timing bezel with a black insert, it features a matte black Tritium dual with a matching DOXA-style handset, and a date at 3:00.

Powered by the workhorse ETA 2872 automatic movement — a predecessor of the modern 2824-2 family — it comes paired to a black Tropic-style rubber strap with a stainless steel pin buckle.

The tall, easily grippable bezel; the 6-notch, screw-down caseback; the highly legible handset. This unique timepiece has ‘Doxa’ written all over it — only, it’s cooler, and much more rare.
