WHY WE LOVE IT

A perpetual calendar is like a small computer on your wrist.

Think of it this way: Imagine a watch that keeps track of not only the time, but also the date, the day of the week, and the month, and also tells you whether it’s a leap year or not, and what the current phase of the moon is. Oh, and one more thing — imagine it does all of this mechanically, using springs and gears, and that you only have to adjust it once every century or so. Crazy, right?

Girard Perregaux’s Reference 2722, part of a limited-edition run of 25 pieces from 2003, is a beautiful example of a contemporary QP that combines vintage aesthetics — such as tried-and-true ‘Breguet’ numerals — with modern movement technology. 

Housed in a 40mm 18K rose gold case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished bezel, this particular piece features a silver guilloché dial with applied pink gold ‘Breguet’ indices, a matching, luminous ‘dauphine’ handset, an outer 1/5th-seconds track, and a perpetual calendar display: Year and months are displayed at 12 o’clock, the date at 3:00, the phase of the moon at 6:00, and the day at 9:00. 

Powering this beautiful timepiece is the Girard Perregaux Calibre 33Q0.D automatic movement with 27 jewels and a handsome 18K gold rotor, which is visible via a sapphire exhibition caseback. Paired to the watch is a signed, brown alligator leather strap with a signed, 18K rose gold deployant clasp.

OVERALL CONDITION

The case is in fantastic condition overall showing normal signs of wear consistent with age and use. Silver 'guilloche' dial with applied rose gold 'Breguet' indices and and radial subsidiary register rings is in as-new condition with matching luminous 'dauphine' handset. Signed crown. Sapphire exhibition caseback. Caseback numbered 18/25.
